- Short-Term Guitar Storage
The best place to keep your guitar is in its case. A quality case will help protect the instrument from humidity and temperature fluctuations, as well as any accidental knocks, dents, or falls.
Acoustic guitars are much more sensitive to humidity and temperature fluctuations than a solid-body electric. A hard-shell case is the best storage for your acoustic guitars and provides a reliable, closed environment to monitor and regulate humidity levels.
Granted, when an instrument is in its case, it is not as often picked up and played. This is a bit of a catch-22, and therefore, a personal decision when deciding what is best for you and your storage needs. If it is not kept in its case, it should be left on a stand.
Any storage, either in the short or long-term, should be within a climate-controlled environment. Any extreme temperatures or moisture levels can destroy a guitar when left in these conditions.
Choosing a Stand
Guitar stands come in all shapes and sizes, and there are plenty of choices available to accommodate most situations.
Single Floor Stands
As the name implies, single floor stands are designed to hold and display one instrument. They are generally low cost (under $20) and one of the most common stands available. There are many styles available, some more space-saving or aesthetically pleasing than others. When shopping for one, keep an eye on how secure the guitar is in the stand. For example, can it be tipped over easily? Some models that cradle the neck also lock, which can also help prevent accidental falls.

Guitar Racks
For those with a growing collection of guitars, a guitar rack may be a good choice. Many affordable racks allow you to store between 5 and 10 guitars in a sideways orientation. This style of stand is generally more functional than aesthetical and will allow a large collection of guitars in small space. Perfect for stage, studio and home.
